News and thanks from afar...

Thereza NavubyaI got the chance to see the handiwork of our 2009 volunteers when I went to visit Thereza Navubya, grandmother of Joanita Nakajumba, in her new home. Joanita was on the 2009 A-Z HIV Health Care Project. She lives in her new home with her grandmother and 12 other siblings and cousins. Although there are only 2 rooms, this is vast comfort compared to their previous living conditions. Thereza is pictured here with her colourful hand-woven mat. She weaves these mats to sell and provide a source of income for her family. She wanted to thank all the volunteers and the A-Z supporters for providing her with a new family home.

Two of Thereza Navubya's other grandchildren peering through the door, a bit wary of the strange visitor – I don't blame them!

A-Z Children's Charity 15 minutes of fame

Volunteer with A-ZA-Z Children's Charity was flirting with fame with an article created by former volunteer Deirdre Mullins for RTE Travel site. Thanks to Deirdre for promoting the charity on such a great platform. Lisa Smyth:

A-Z Children's Charity wishes to welcome our new Events Co-ordinator, Lisa Smyth, to our team. Lisa has extensive overseas volunteer experience in Ghana, Bolivia and Costa Rica. She has also been involved in numerous charity treks and is no stranger to organising events. She put these skills to test last year with A-Z Children's Charity when she took on the Four Peaks Challenge, raising funds and sharing the love last February with a Speed Dating Night. She is looking forward to the challenge of creating new and exciting events for the charity and is open to all weird and wonderful ideas that any of our supporters may have to offer. Check out our events calendar below and give Lisa a call if you would like to get involved.
