Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with A-Z Children’s charity.
- Would you like to volunteer in Uganda this summer?
- Do you have three to four weeks to spare?
- Are you a teacher, nurse or somebody with general skills?
- Would you like to work in a school, a clinic, in a library or in the community? Would you like to work with orphans, vulnerable children or children infected with HIV?
Then please take five minutes to read what is involved in volunteering with A-Z Children’s Charity in Uganda.
Your voluntary work in Uganda can help A – Z Children’s Charity achieve our mission, which is to provide health care and education to Ugandan orphans and vulnerable children infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS.
A-Z Children hopes that volunteering will help you really experience Ugandan culture, make new friends and gain a new perspective on the world.... We know no one will save the world in 3 weeks but you could develop a new outlook on how individuals in the developing work live.
This will be an authentic experience enabling you to really understand and relate to the communities you will be working in.

We will be holding several open days on what is involved in volunteering in Uganda during the year. If you would like more information on volunteering please come along to our next open day and meet our staff and past volunteers. Our first open day will be held on the 22nd November from 12-3pm upstairs on Bell Café, beside St. Teresa's Church on Claraden St., 2 minutes walk From Grafton Street.
Please note that our placements are not overly structured but are balanced with plenty of work, rest and free time. Anyone who is enthusiastic, motivated and adaptable will fit right in.
The dates and placement breakdowns are as follows: -
1st Placement – 1st July- 24th July.
8 nurses, 21 primary school teachers and 4 individuals with general skills
2nd Placement - 24th July- 14th August.
8 nurses, 21 primary school teachers and 4 individuals with general skills
The placements are filled on a first come first served basis, subject to the suitability of a candidate. A place is guaranteed once an individual’s plane ticket is paid in full.
If you would like the opportunity to volunteer in Uganda, please e-mail your C.V. to info@azchildrenscharity.org
Please note that we only take individuals who are 20 years or older.
All volunteers are expected to raise a minimum of €2000 for the charity. You have to pay for your own flight which costs €1228. Vacinations cost approximately €200. A-Z Children’s charity subsidises your trip in Uganda. We pick you up from the airport, drop you back home at the end of your trip, provide you with accommodation, 3 meals a day, a bed, bedding, a mosquito net, water, electricity etc. All this will only cost you €100. Your trip is therefore really cheap once you arrive in Uganda. You do have the option on going on safari, visiting the mountain gorillas or doing white water rafting on the weekends (trust me, you will need some time off). These trips are obviously quite expensive (€100- €500).
For more details please call Brian on 086-1639505 or come to our open day on the 22nd November. This will be held beside St. Teresa's Church in Bell Café on Clarendon St., 2 minutes walk From Grafton Street.
